Purpose of the Assignment:
The purpose of this assignment is to enable you to identify and discuss the dynamics of domestic violence as they are portrayed in the film.
Requirement:
The following assignment requires you to view the film “ONCE WERE WARRIORS” (a Link will be provided).
You will turn in a 3-4 page paper that considers the film with respect to the dynamics and concepts of Domestic Violence that you will learn in class.
This paper must contain specific dynamics of intimate partner violence which you both define (using the readings) and demonstrate (using examples from the film).

Paper should include:
1) Examples of dynamics or characteristics of IPV. They must be defined (cite all references).
2) Examples of the dynamic or characteristic of IPV you identified to scenes in the film, describing the behaviors and actions of the characters or situation. Additionally, please identify the purpose those behaviors serve in maintaining the violent relationship in the film.
3) Finally, provide a critique of the film regarding its depiction of IPV. Did it seem to accurately represent the issue and the dynamics involved? Or were some elements inaccurately represented? Were elements enhanced or “over-dramatized” (in your opinion) to make the film more compelling? Or were elements of the violence downplayed, minimized or even eliminated?
Criteria for evaluation:
1) Clarity of expression – The ability to express one’s ideas effectively is a mark of higher education. This paper will be evaluated based on grammar, word choice, spelling, punctuation and sentence structure.
2) Ability to demonstrate the concepts contained in the readings and lectures using actual events and scenes from the film.
3) Independent ideas about the accurate/inaccurate depiction of IPV in the chosen film.
