Assessment Guidelines Part B Portfolio
The second assignment is a 50% 2,500 (max 2,750) word portfolio entitled: Organisational analysis of festival and event organisation X (festival and event organisation of your choice).
As a portfolio it is anticipated that supported materials will also be used here, i.e. pictures, promotional materials of the festival or event. These do not count in the word limit.
Proposed Structure
Introduction
Write about the contents of the portfolio and give the background to the event and the organisation behind it (500 words)
Structure (500 words)
Present the structure of the organisation/event, who owns and/or manages it, draw the organisational tree and describe the roles that various positions in the organisation have in strategic as well as day to day management.
Context (700 words)
Explore the situational elements in the organisation and its macro environment (PEST analysis)
This section will especially show your awareness of and skill in using the wider literature surrounding the event and the community /business world it relates to. Evidence of policy transfer and or organisational learning can be discussed here, too or at the end.
Plans, decisions, operations (500 words)
This section may go after structure if you prefer. What is the lifecycle of the event and how does that affect operations? How does project planning take place and by whom and what major decisions are taken and how?
Recommendations, issues (300 words)
From the overview provided by all the above sections what SWOT elements feature for the organisation/event.
What other issues do you see in the horizon? Is there isomorphism and is that good or bad, is there policy transfer, learning evident?
Overall if you were advising the organisation are there any particular issues you would draw staff attention, to?

Excellent portfolios will:
• address all aspects of the brief of the portfolio
• show that a systematic approach has been taken to the management of information with a logical progression of ideas
• be clearly supported in relation to appropriate theory and examples which can be substantiated
• use a wide range of sources, appropriately cited (use any referencing style and be consistent in its use)
• combine practical information with critical appraisal
• identify and analyse issues in an insightful manner, with points justified with reference to data and theory
• include substantive conclusions and recommendations based on previous analysis, be presented to a very high standard, acceptable for professional presentation outside the University.
