How Should Society Function?: Ancient and Medieval Legal Systems

Foundations of legal systems have varied from era to era and region to region.  Confucius, Plato, the Roman patricians and emperors were all preoccupied with the problem of creating good and stable governments. Discuss the ideas at least four of the documents and evaluate how well they responded to the needs of their respective peoples. What problems and concerns did they fail to address?
